Sterile Sucrose Solution 24%
Sterile Sucrose Solution 24% contains 240mg sucrose BP in water for injections to 1mL. It contains no preservative. The vial contains 5mL of sterile oral solution and is intended for use in a single patient. Sterile Sucrose Solution 24% is intended for use for analgesia in neonatal units and hospital infant clinics to minimize the chance of bacterial and nosocomial infections.
Indication
Sterile Sucrose Solution 24% acts as an analgesic in infants below the age of 3 months in mild to moderate procedural pain, such as: heel lance for blood taking, immunisation - subcutaneous and intramuscular, catheter insertion, and retinopathy of prematurity examination. A full set of indications may be found in the Guideline Statement: Management of Procedure-related Pain in Neonates 2005 (Paediatrics and Child Health Division of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians).
